A note on the name. Jura's descaling tablets are 2-phase. Jura's cleaning tablets are 3-phase. Different jobs, different prompts on the display. If your machine asked you to clean rather than descale, you want the 3-phase cleaning tablets.

What the two phases do

• Descale. Sulphamic acid dissolves the scale that has built up through the fluid system and thermoblock. Scale is what makes a machine slow, noisy and eventually expensive.
• Seal. The second phase seals the fluid system and leaves long term corrosion protection on the pipes and thermoblock.

How often

When the machine asks. Melbourne water is moderately hard, so if you are not running a CLARIS filter expect the prompt fairly regularly. If you are running a CLARIS filter, most Jura machines skip the descale prompt while the filter is active, which is most of the reason to fit one.
